I started doing CrossFit style workouts about 10 years ago with my long time friend/trainer Charlie Dunifer, now owner of All Heart CrossFit in Kent, Ohio, who trained me for pre/post college hockey season. I tried bodybuilding, spinning, boxing and everything else under the sun. They were all great ways to get in shape but nothing came close to CrossFit to prepare me for the tough, long hockey season. I only wish I used this training program earlier in my life.

I started coaching in Ohio for various gyms eventually moving to Florida where I had the opportunity to coach more hours and gain more experience. I have helped many clients move forward on their journey to wellness, and many of them I am proud to say are still my friends to this day. Personally I have reached one of my fitness goals, which was to become a Regional competitor, and in 2014 I became a South East Regional Athlete. My goal now is to share my experiences and knowledge gained over the years to my members so they can pursue any dream they seek to achieve.

Previous Experience: CrossFit Paradigm Performance, coach.

I was first introduced to CrossFit in 2014 after seeing some guys doing the Olympic lifts in the RIT gym during college. A few google searches led me to the CrossFit YouTube page. I became a fan of the sport and volunteered at the North East Regional in 2014, which was the first time I had actually seen a CrossFit workout in person. It looked way cooler than the bodybuilding stuff I was doing and people were actually having fun, so I decided to sign up for a local competition and actually try it for myself. That competition sparked the fire and I spent the next few months watching every single video on the CrossFit YouTube page and teaching myself how to do everything from the air squat to handstand walking. In October 2015 the “globo  gym” I had been working out at closed, and I joined CrossFit Paradigm Performance.

After about a year of attending classes, I began regularly competing in both team and individual competitions, which have been my main athletic focus ever since. The community experience of Paradigm and especially my first Open experience got me interested in coaching. When two of the coaches at Paradigm re-located out of state, I jumped at the opportunity, got my Level 1 and began coaching.

Today, my major athletic goal is qualifying on a team for Regionals and my goal as a coach is to be an overall positive influence on the gym and an inspiration and facilitator of awesomeness to athletes.

My favorite part about coaching is seeing people achieve things that they never thought were possible. I strive to help people find the confidence and self-belief to crush their goals and continue to progress in all areas of health and fitness.

Personal Achievements: 

I have participated in many competitions and won some over the years, but I would have to say one of my most notable achievements is helping people not just get fitter, but mentally stronger.  I love seeing people take ownership of themselves and develop confidence.

About Liz & Previous Experience:  

I am originally from Massachusetts, which you will learn when you speak to me. I am happily married and a mother to five children.  I also have five dogs and a cat.  I have a bachelor's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Chemistry and minor in education.  I have a Master's degree in Physical Sciences from The University of Chicago.  I have been coaching CrossFit for over six years.  In addition to coaching CrossFit, I own my own photography business, I volunteer with a pet rescue to process background checks for dog adoption, and I occasionally write on my motivational blog.  I love to bake, sew and drink coffee too. 

Prior to CrossFit, I was a competitive cross-country and track athlete through high school and college.  When I was 23, I was told I could never exercise again after I herniated a disk in my back shoveling snow.  I don't like being told I can't do something.  Since then, I have completed three marathons, including a 3:16 PR in Boston.   My coaching experience includes high school cross-country and track and field, including the pole vault.  I started CrossFit when I became bored with running and I have not looked back. Crossfit made me feel alive again and like I was more than just a mom.  I was worried to do CrossFit because of my back injury and all five children were c-sections.  I scaled, modified, and learned what to do and I kept getting better and better.  I love helping others achieve their goals and feel unstoppable and magical when they are at the gym.  It is my goal to make your experience at CrossFit the best hour of your day!  “Do not let your fear define you” and “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” are phrases I live by!
